VTS & Maritime Surveillance Issues & Solutions


VTS Training can be offered through Vitesse Management Services who will organise the complete training program on your behalf. All travel, airport transfers and accommodation can be organised for the students so that the students can focus on the training and their managers can be assured that all arrangements have been professionally handled.

Simply complete the appropriate booking form and indicate which training establishment you would prefer to attend.

Operator Training (V.103-1)

The V.103-1 course provides students with the skills required to become a VTS Operator. It comprises three components:
  1. Nautical Knowledge (3 weeks)
  2. VTS Theory - Induction (1 week)
  3. VTS operation - Simulator (1 week)
For students with appropriate maritime qualification (Master Mariner or Officer of the Watch), the Nautical Knowledge component of the course is not necessary and the VTS Operator Certificate can be awarded, following 2 weeks of training, by just completing components 2 & 3.

Please note that IELTS Level 5 English is required.

Supervisor Training (V.103-2)

The V.103-2 course provides VTS Operators who have at least 12 months operational experience with the additional training required to undertake the advanced duties of a VTS Supervisor. The course comprises one further module:
  1. VTS Advancement (Supervisor) - 2 Weeks
The VTS Supervisor course is designed to train the students in effective VTS Supervision Management

South Tyneside College is accredited by IALA and by the UK Maritime & Coastguard Agency for the provision of VTS V.103-1 and V.103-2 training courses. the college is located in South Shields, near Newcastle in the North East of England. Vitesse MSL can arrange training packages for individuals or groups who require V.103-1 training. The package can include flights to Newcastle, airport transfers and accommodation (either on campus, if available) or within the local area.
